Blue Pepper Nassaukade 366 (489 70 39). Traditional
Indonesian cuisine in a not so traditional setting; blue and red walls,
luxurious chairs and modern lighting. The excellent cooking matches Blue
Pepper's up market interior. Instead of the traditional comprehensive 'rijsttafel'
dish three menus are on offer, which allow guests to sample the different
flavors of Indonesian cooking. Open daily 6pm-10pm (closed Sun). Bojo Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 51 (622 74 34). ![]() Traditional
Indonesian fare in large quantities at low prices served well into the nightly

Reguliersdwarsstraat 30 (626 84 00). Upmarket
Oriental restaurant with an interior not unlike an Asiatic musical; colors
abound and the ceiling is adorned with upturned Chinese umbrellas. Wonderful
canalhouse garden for summer dining. Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai dishes
all beautifully presented, in large portions. Open 5.30pm-11pm, closed Tue. Hoi Tin Zeedijk
112 (625 64 51). Authentic Chinese cuisine in this slightly scruffy restaurant on the Zeedijk. What it lacks in looks it makes up for in the quality of the food, and Hoi Tin has over 200 dishes on the menu. Very popular with locals as well as Chinese. Cheap. Open daily noon-midnight. Memories
of IndiaReguliersdwarsstraat 88 (623 57 10). Upscale Indian restaurant cloned from its London counterpart and definitely one of the best in town. Slightly cheesy interior, but authentic food with friendly service. Moderate prices. Open daily 5pm-11.30pm. Nam Kee Zeedijk 111-113 (624 34 70). Traditional
Chinese eatery with formica tables, fluorescent lighting and Peking ducks
in the window. Close to the Nieuwmarkt area - Amsterdam's 'Chinatown' -
Nam Kee used to cater to Chinese only, but with the rise to fashion of Asian
cuisine nowadays it has also become popular with hip locals. As you would
expect, excellent traditional Chinese cooking, try the Tja Sieuw or Nam
Kee's specialty: Peking Duck. Complimentary pot of tea. Open daily noon-midnight. |
